Biography

Brittany Birchall started her CrossFit training in August 2009 under CrossFit legend, Olympian, and Ski and Snowboard Hall of Famer, Eva Twadorkens at CrossFit Santa Cruz Central in Santa Cruz, California after experiencing her first CrossFit workout during the same month at Orange Coast CrossFit with coach and box owner, Justin Flynn.  During this time Birchall was obtaining her Master's in Educational Leadership and Administrative Credential, so she didn't become a true CrossFitter until January 2010. 

During her training through August 2011 at CrossFit Santa Cruz Central, Brittany had the fortunate opportunity to attend classes under CrossFit Spirit of the Games athlete and original "Nasty Girl", Annie Sakamoto, as well as highly respected and loved coach, Gary Hirthler.  She earned her CrossFit Level 1 certification in October 2011.  Following her certification, she shadowed coach, Gary Hirthler at CrossFit Santa Cruz Central. 
Brittany formerly trained at Santa Cruz Strength where she was coached under the expertise and programming guidance of nationally ranked Olympic Weightlifter, Jocelyn Forest, in addition to CrossFit Amundson with the "original firebreather", Greg Amundson.  She was the strength and conditioning coach for Santa Cruz Strength.  In addition, she was the Assistant Varsity Softball Coach, under professional athlete, CalBears Champion, MVP, and Hall of Famer, Jocelyn Forest 

Brittany currently trains and coaches at CrossFit West and CrossFit Watsonville.  She has worked with the former USA Olympic Weightlifting Team coach, Jim Schmitz, as well as elite powerlifter and world record holder of the strongest gym in the world, Louie Simmons of Westside Barbell.  Brittany continues to seek out coaches and experiences that broaden her knowledge base and to develop her coaching skills and expertise.  
Brittany currently works as a middle school math and science teacher in Pajaro Valley Unified School District and coaches the Mavericks travel softball team for 14 and unders in Carmel, Ca.  She has served her school site in multiple capacities.  Brittany coached the girls’ soccer team at her school site for six years.  Using her CrossFit knowledge and experience, she founded a strength and conditioning program for middle school students called, Urban Cross Training using her experience and CrossFit methodologies.  She has served as the GATE Liaison under highly regarded and admired veteran teacher, coach, and GATE Coordinator, Lyn Olson.  In addition, Brittany has served in several other capacities that include Activities Director, Student Council Advisor, Data Team Lead, and Math Department Chair.  She has participated in multiple professional development opportunities that include:  The Schools Attuned Program, Digital Technology Training in New Orleans, Pre-Algebra Through Technology Applications, Differentiating Instruction Using Depth and Complexity Icons, The Silicon Valley Math Grant Initiative, and the Asilomar Mathematics Conference in Pacific Grove to name a few.
